The Alternate Roots Magazine, USA, Album review, May 2017top of the British Blues scene
Formed in 2012, Zoe Schwarz Blue Commotion have hit a stride over the past few years, releasing four studio albums, including their recent This is the Life I Choose, and climbing a musical ladder that has taken them to the top of the British Blues scene. Zoe Schwarz releases her dusky vocal lazily over the title track as she claims “This is the Life I Choose” over the ebb and flow rhythm provided by Blue Commotion. A Blues hustle dictates the groove of “I Wanna Get Something Started” as This is the Life I Choose takes a mighty breath before roaring into “Hold On”, dices and chops the beats for “People”, sways gently to heed “Call of the Night”, and slams home a history of a working band in “I Can’t Live Like That”.
Zoe Schwarz whispers “My Baby Told Me So” in a love note to Blue Commotion as the band confesses on a rumbling rhythm of “No Money in My Pocket”, and cover Broadway in Blue for Anthony Newley’s “Feeling Good” from The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd.
